Our Programs

First day

"Every child deserves to have a great first day of school."

Mark Tucker, Founder

First Day provides the opportunity for almost 1,000 low-income and at-risk children to begin their school year with confidence and enthusiasm. Our First Day event has a festive atmosphere with lots of games and activities for the whole family. Each registered child that attends the First Day event receives a backpack filled with school supplies, a haircut from a licensed professional, and a new outfit of shirt, pants, and shoes. Each family in attendance receives a bag of non-perishable food items to take home with them after the event.

Game day

"Every child deserves the opportunity to play and have a game day".

Mark Tucker, Founder

AboutKidz believes that every child deserves the opportunity to play organized sports, and that social, emotional, physical, and intellectual skills can be improved through team sports. Because of the generous support by our sponsors, we are able to cover all costs associated with the teams, including: league fees, uniforms, equipment, transportation, snacks, trophies, and the end-of-season team parties. It also allows for over 100 children each year to play baseball, soccer and basketball.  The AboutKidz coaches and players spend an average of three months together but the impact on the players and their families lasts far beyond the length of the season.

graduation day

"Every child deserves the best chance to achieve their graduation day."

Mark Tucker, Founder

AboutKidz partners with the San Juan Unified School District to provide free tutoring at Northridge Elementary School. Tutoring is provided on the school campus twice a week for two hours each day.  We are helping the students achieve grade level standards in reading and writing. We help with homework, practice reading and math facts and reinforce learning using education games. Our team of volunteer tutors consists of retired educators, college graduates who are aspiring to be educators, and college bound high school students who desire to give back to their community.

Big Christmas Giveaway

For the past four years AboutKidz has organized toy drives in December and donated the toys to organizations that distribute them to families in need. Volunteers collect, sort, wrap, and deliver the gifts. We have a wonderful partnership with Sacramento area Walmart stores that allow us to collect toys in front of over ten stores each year. So far we have collected and distributed over 3,000 toy donations.
